Growth isn’t linear...and that too, is fine
I’ve come to accept that growth isn’t a straight line. Some days you’re learning. Some days you’re experimenting. Other days, you’re teaching without realizing it. Most times, all three are happening at once; quietly, in the background. No announcements. No applause. Just movement.
Learning: staying teachable
Learning keeps me grounded. It reminds me that no matter how far I’ve come, there’s always more I don’t know. The moment I start feeling like I’ve “figured it out” is usually the moment I stop paying attention. Curiosity does the heavy lifting. Ego just slows things down.
Innovation: Doing the work, not the noise
Innovation shows up when learning meets courage. It’s rarely about reinventing the wheel.
More often, it’s about doing something familiar in a better, more honest way. Trying. Failing. Adjusting. Repeating. Nothing fancy. Just progress earned through consistency.
Mentoring: Giving while still growing
Mentoring surprised me. I used to think you had to be far ahead to guide others. Turns out, you just need to be a few steps forward and willing to share what worked, and what didn’t. Teaching has a way of sharpening your thinking while humbling you at the same time.
Looking ahead
Next year, I plan to be more intentional about mentoring. Not as an expert with all the answers, but as someone still learning, building, and figuring things out in real time. Sharing lessons. Offering guidance. Creating room for honest conversations about growth, mistakes, and momentum.
I’ve learned to respect the cycle: learn deeply, build bravely, share freely; then start again. It’s not loud. It’s not rushed. But it’s steady. And steady progress has a way of compounding when you least expect it.
